A week with Big Bass Studio

June 11, 2026 · Marta Lindqvist

I'll be honest, I didn't expect to spend a week with Big Bass Studio. Fishing sims usually lose me after the third cast. But something about the rhythm here got under my skin, and by day three I was checking my rod loadout on my lunch break.

The core loop is deceptively simple. You cast with a flick, watch the surface, and time your strike. What surprised me was how much reading the environment matters. Certain spots produce certain catches, and once I stopped spamming casts and started paying attention to the ripples, my whole approach changed.

The reeling mechanic deserves a mention. Instead of holding a button, you make a rotating gesture and manage line tension, which turns each catch into a little tug-of-war. On a bigger fish it genuinely got tense. My tip: don't yank. Ease off when the tension bar spikes and let the fish tire itself out.

Battery held up well over long sessions, and my phone never got hot, which for a game I played this much is a real plus. Big Bass Studio isn't trying to be exciting in a loud way. It's a quiet, tactile game that rewards patience, and I've kept it installed since.

If you've bounced off fishing games before, give this one a proper hour before judging. It took me that long to click with it, and now it's my go-to for winding down.
