The mobile game settings worth changing first

May 31, 2026 · Marta Lindqvist

Most people open a new game and hit play without touching the settings. I get it, the menu is boring. But five minutes in there can genuinely change how a game feels, and here are the ones I always check first.

Frame rate cap comes first. A lot of games default to 60fps or higher, which looks great but roasts your battery. If a game feels the same at 30fps to you, capping it will buy you real extra playtime.

Next is control sensitivity. Tilt racers and shooters almost always ship with sensitivity that's too high or too low for your hands. Spend a round or two dialing it in. It's the difference between fighting the game and flowing with it.

Turn on haptics if the game supports them well, and off if they're just noise. Some games use vibration meaningfully, and others just buzz constantly and drain your battery for nothing. And finally, check the graphics preset. Medium is usually the sweet spot on midrange phones.

None of this is glamorous, but it's the stuff that separates a game you tolerate from one you enjoy. Poke around that menu before you complain about controls.
